This exciting project continues to morph, as sources of funds are sought, but we are still aiming for completion by April 2024.
The Indigenous consultation in late June was very enthusiastic and saw a desire to include specific Indigenous Interpretive signage and a symbolic karlamarta /Bankia Firestick as the eternal flame. With these aspects the project will cost more, so two possible sources of additional funds for these aspects were sought, but regrettably not available. Recently the application to Lotterywest was amended to include the additions.
The sub-committee will meet and the next Indigenous consultation discussion will be on 3rd September at 1.00pm at the Lower Kalgan Hall. It is proposed to suggest names for the Yarning and Memorial Space then and discuss the interpretive signage too. Please submit your suggestions, if you have any.
In the meantime, it has been recommended that we proceed with the project in phases – firstly completing the aspects that can be funded by the Saluting their Services Grant funds of $10 000 that is on hand.
Whilst we cannot commence expenditure aspects of the project until we have an outcome from Lotterywest, hopefully in late October, it is intended that planning and final designs and quotes for Phase One will be submitted to the LKCA’s next meeting so that the project is ready to go as soon as we receive the Lotterywest news.
It is regretted that Ainslie Mason has left the sub-committee and we thank her for her knowledge and contributions. Di Fry has agreed to join the sub-committee and an invitation is extended to others to join us too – please be in touch.
